Here at AJR over the past week we have had a wave of computers and laptop in the workshop, Our customers will call us and say they had a call from Microsoft and someone took control of their computer over the internet to fix some issues, and now its doing all kinds of strange things, some customers did not even realised it was a scam until they speak with us, and we have had other customers who have realised and call us to check out their computer, AJR will run our MOT & Tune-up service followed by our Virus & Spyware removal service if the customer has let the so called Microsoft tech support people remote control their computer we will recommend they let us backup all the data and do a full wipe and software rebuild and restore the data back to were it was originally is always the safest cure and best practice in these cases. This is why i am writing this article to warn people that the, “Microsoft” Phone Call To Fix Your Computer Is a Scam.
If you receive an unsolicited phone call or email from a person claiming to be from Microsoft tech support or any other company and they need to fix your computer, it is a scam by cyber criminals. Like i mentioned above we have been receiving reports from customers that they are receiving these hoax phone calls. The caller will usually say your computer has been hacked or there are viruses installed. They try to talk you into letting them take control of your computer by a remote support connection over the internet so they can repair the issues or remove viruses it has or investigate the hackers. After they have logged into your computer they may install some programs and claim to be analyzing the security of your computer. After they try to install software, “fixes”, or service subscriptions and show you the event viewer and claim the red events are critical and they will repair them don’t worry they use the event viewer to scare you, everyone will have some form of red minor events showing, they will then ask you to pay them with your credit card.
Make sure you avoid these dangerous scams.
Microsoft does not make unsolicited phone calls to fix your computer, Nobody monitors your computer how would they know if you had a virus infection or system services that need repairing. If you receive an unsolicited email message or phone call that appears to be from Microsoft and requests that you send personal information or click links, delete the message or hang up the phone immediately. And don’t be afraid to say “I know this is a scam, do not call me again!” in most cases you will not hear from them again.
